DESIGNATED SURVIVOR – THE DESIGNATED TV SHOW OF 2017
Recently
released on Netflix, designated survivor is a television series following Tom
Kirkman, as he is unceremoniously thrown into the position of President of the
United States. After a terrorist attack at the US State of Union that kills the
entire U.S. cabinet, including both the President and Vice President, Kirkman
is named “designated survivor”, a title given to the member of the cabinet who
is chosen to remind behind, in case such a horrific act occurs.
Going from the
lowly position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to the President
of the US Kirkman must face a country in ruins who do not believe him to be the
right man for the presidency. Dealing with the aftermath of a terrible tragedy
in which he lost colleagues and friends, Kirkman teams up with the Republican
Designated Survivor, Kimble Hookstraten, and attempts to work with the FBI to
find the conspirators who drove the US into chaos.
Unwittingly
clever, Kiefer Sutherland plays
Kirkman, alongside his chief of staff Aaron Shore (played by Adán Canto) and his adviser Emily Rhodes
(played by Italia Ricci)
This is an
absolute must watch, even if politics aren’t your thing. The concepts are
simple, though the plot is thick. The show will have you laughing, crying, and
on the absolute edge of your seat. Successfully deriving the attitudes of the
American people, Designated Survivor captures the loyalty and community of the
American people when faced with crisis.
