The Undateables: Exploiting Disability?

Image
The Undateables is a TV series run by Channel 4 in the UK and surrounds the difficulties with finding love for people with disabilities and other potential life-threatening conditions. It is a light-hearted show meant to entertain yet allows the viewer to sympathise in some cases with the individuals shown within each episode as they battle the complications that dating brings to the table. Disabilities such as Tourettes Syndrome, Autism and Asperges are showcased within different episodes, and these disabilities are presented in a multitude of different ways which communicates the concept that everyone is unique and different, even if they are labelled to act or perform in a certain stereotypical way. Some have argued that the series creates entertainment and comedic value from people's disabilities as they may not conform to what is seen as 'normal' by other peoples standards. According to the Daily Mail's post (which is linked below), doctors have foun...

Review: The Parent Trap

Image
The Parent Trap! The parent trap is one of the best movies released in the 90’s, and just about every girl has seen it. Featuring a young Lindsey Lohan, the film follows two identical twin sisters, who were both raised by one of their parents after they split when the girls were babies. After a chance meeting at summer camp, the girls plot a daring plan to bring their parents back together – switch places! At the end of summer camp, Halley takes Annie’s place and goes to London to meet her mother (Natasha Richardson), and Annie flies to California to meet her father (Dennis Quaid). After perfectly faking being the fake child, the twins realise that Nick (the father) is getting married, and hasten to bring their parents to San Francisco to finally reunite, although things don’t go as planned when they find out Nick’s pretentious fiancée (played by Elaine Hendrix) is only marrying Nick for his money. With the whole family converged at a hotel in San Fran, the twins plan ...

Review: How I Met Your Mother

Image
How I met your mother is an American comedy television show that is guaranteed to make you lose track of the day. The 20 minute episodes and the hilarity of the storyline make it a show that can be eagerly binge-watched, or alternatively, something you can put on to pass the time. The show follows Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), a hopeful young architect trying to succeed in his career and his love life in the beloved city of New York. The show is told with a voiceover narrator, as Ted recounts the story to his kids of “How I met your mother”. It begins after Teds best friend Marshall (Jason Segel) proposes to his girlfriend Lily (Alyson Hannigan), and Ted makes it his quest to find “the one” and is convinced she is somewhere in New York. Accompanied by his friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) who has endlessly hilarious jokes, a fetish for suits, and a playbook that is full of the best lies to pick up women, Ted embarks on his journey to find love. Though it sounds sexist, its possibly...

First impressions on "Tangled: The Series"

Image
So unfortunately our smoulder faces didn't work and Tangled didn’t get a sequel.  But it did get its own series in early 2017 which (go figure) is called, “Tangled: The series”! Check out the teaser trailer below! Why did Rapunzel's mum not correct Punzie's French? Here’s my thoughts after watching the first episode. So the first issue is that the show doesn’t clearly address where the series is meant to take place in the Tangled world. As per the movie released in 2010, we know that Rapunzel is 18 and Flynn is like 26 (an 8 year age gap). In the approximately 7 minute short released in 2012 titled “Tangled Ever After”, we know that Flynn and Rapunzel get married. But when does the series take place? We would have to assume before the wedding since Rapunzel refers to Flynn as her boyfriend and perhaps after the film since Mother Gothel is not around (sorta?). Upon research I found out my hypothesis was right but it was really annoying having to ...

Must watch cartoon: Daria

Image
Actually a spin-off of the popular cartoon series at the time, Beavis and Butthead , Daria  is a five season series (a total of 65 episodes) starring Daria Morgendorffer (A.K.A The Queen of Sarcasm) who despises high school and believes that any aspect of life can be improved with pizza , making her indeed a relatable character . Daria  was MTV’s longest-running animated series which commenced in 1997 to 2001. The series has two animated films, “Is It Fall Yet?” and “Is It College Yet?” The screenwriters did an outstanding job at giving Daria the most brilliant comebacks and sarcastic lines adding to the series element of dark humor. The series also had an amazingly versatile cast as some cast members played more than one character such as Wendy Hoopes who played Jane Lane, Quinn and Helen Morgendorffer and Marc Thompson who played Mr. Timothy O’Neil, Mr. Anthony DeMartino and Kevin Thompson (L ol. Same last name) .   It's currently rerunnin...
