First impressions on "Tangled: The Series"

So unfortunately our smoulder faces didn't work and Tangled didn’t get a sequel.

But it did get its own series in early 2017 which (go figure) is called, “Tangled: The series”! Check out the teaser trailer below! Why did Rapunzel's mum not correct Punzie's French?

Here’s my thoughts after watching the first episode.

So the first issue is that the show doesn’t clearly address where the series is meant to take place in the Tangled world. As per the movie released in 2010, we know that Rapunzel is 18 and Flynn is like 26 (an 8 year age gap). In the approximately 7 minute short released in 2012 titled “Tangled Ever After”, we know that Flynn and Rapunzel get married. But when does the series take place?

We would have to assume before the wedding since Rapunzel refers to Flynn as her boyfriend and perhaps after the film since Mother Gothel is not around (sorta?). Upon research I found out my hypothesis was right but it was really annoying having to figure it out.

The fact that Rapunzel, who, by the way is referred to as “Raps” in the series (like really? I preferred Blondie or even Punzie) calls Flynn her “boyfriend”, makes the whole show have a teenage angst feel. She’s at least 18 now. Like, c'mon. I don't even act like that. Yeah, yeah, she was locked in a tower.

In terms of humour elements, they are still there but I cant get past the plot holes and drama. Also, she gets a maid? What for? she can do everything herself.

I don’t hate the animation style. It’s just different. Gives a nice storybook vibe and in regards to new characters, Quirin seems interesting but like I said before, the maid (Cassandra) doesn’t seem necessary (if anything, Cassandra seems like a bad influence on Punzie. No, I'm not calling her "Raps").

Overall, "hmm, I don't know..." is how I feel about the series. With all the teenage angst, it seems the target audience is young kids (and no, not a series made for young ones that can still be watched by teens or adults for comedy or deeper messages). I’m hoping the show will improve but as of now I’m not keen on continuing to watch the show so at the moment I’m going to give it, 3/5 stars.
